Petition to Reopen Hayes Street gets removed from HVNA controlled facebook page

April 8, 2025

This post after being up for 24 hours was removed today.
No surprise, this private group is controlled and moderated by HVNA board members.
HVNA is the permit holder of the Hayes Street Closure.

This type of censorship and oppression by the HVNA is nothing new which is why we are highlighting this unjust behavior. This act exemplifies the very crux of the ongoing issue with stifling dialogue and fair civic engagement regarding a critical issue impacting Hayes Valley.

This evening this question was posed.

Update: Wednesday am this post was also removed.

  1. From the fb thread it looks like the majority agree that a permanent closure is the wrong move. I’ve spoken to a number of stores on Hayes and they have told me they are OK with it being reopened. The chalk doodling and music quartet should be set up at the park or on that big piece of asphalt on parcel K. The insistence that they need a blocked street to do this is ridiculous. Like the previous post I too am grateful for your informative and thoughtful posts. We’re blessed to have you guys staying on top of the issues that matter in Hayes Valley.

  2. HVNA has no shame. A neighbor of mine was removed from this page for a similar reason. The HVNA does not speak for the majority, this is a well known fact. You guys rock for continuing to shine a light on their antics. My neighbors and I also tired of this street closure. The street needs to reopen and if people want to hold an event they should be directed to hold them at the park, in a living alley or at proxy. Keep up the good work and just know you have my full support.
