This past weekend marked the 31st consecutive week of documented noncompliance under Permit No. 1091787 for the closure of the 400 block of Hayes Street. The most egregious aspect of this debacle is that SFMTA has allowed Andrew and company to rebrand the 400 block as the “Hayes Promenade” an unofficial name and purpose that has no standing. The more appropriate action here is to shut this closure down and restore the corridor to its rightful name and use: the Hayes Corridor. Instead, the agency has enabled a small group to treat the space as their own … ignoring the fact that Hayes Valley already has ample public spaces for gathering.
