Head West Permit 2024 Public Hearing February 22

February 21, 2024 Dear ISCOTT and SFMTA: We oppose the 4x event frequency being proposed for the Head West event.  We view the sanctioned promotion of outside retail vendors as a direct threat on our small business operators. This event is run by a out of county for profit business at our neighborhood expense. Each time this event occurs it results in direct financial loss to businesses in Hayes Valley. Our business community received reassurance in recent years that this …

Hayes Valley Street Closure Permit Renewal – 400 Hayes

October 16, 2023 Attention Members of the SFMTA Board: HVSafe supports the recommendations put forth by SFMTA for the re-calibration of a closed street programming for the 400 block of Hayes; we find it to be a good approach to establish a level of success for activating this street closure. We want to underscore that throughout the entirety of the street closure on Hayes (including the closures on the 500 and 300 block) we’ve been advocating for a fair and …

Demand to Lift the Injunction

Attention Mayor London Breed and Board of Supervisors: We oppose Judge Ryu’s injunction prohibiting our City from enforcing its laws against public camping and demand that our City fulfill its mandate to protect and serve San Francisco residents. We need our City leadership to deliver on sound solutions to get people off our streets. The current approach to address rampant addiction and mental illness on our streets has proven itself ineffective and is taxing our City’s funds and resources. Solutions …

Head West Permit 2023- Public Hearing May 11

May 10, 2023 Dear SFMTA ISCOTT. HVSafe opposes the addition of 2 new dates for the Head West venue in Hayes Valley. We have repeatedly heard from small businesses on our merchant corridor that this event negatively impacts their sales.  It’s also worth noting that Head West’s communications are lacking and they have demonstrated an inability to acknowledge our concerns nor did they include all neighborhood groups in their planning efforts. We need to listen to our community members and …

We’re sharing our recent correspondence to the BOS regarding the reappointment of Cindy Elias. (See agenda item #15) We recognize taking a position is often fraught with apprehension, but we believe it’s critical for the health of civic dialogue, advocacy and the right to redress. Dear Board of Supervisors: Public Safety has never been more important to San Franciscans. The role of the Police Commissioner should not be taken lightly. Therefore we/HVSafe recommend that the board reconsider not re-appointing Cindy …

Statement Regarding HVNA’s Involvement in Campaign Against Supervisor Dean Preston

Last month we informed you that Jen Laska, current president of HVNA (Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association) is concurrently on the payroll of GrowSF, a political action committee. The HVNA’s involvement with a political action committee presents a serious conflict of interest and compromises its credibility as a community serving association. HVSafe believes representation at the community level is critical and must not be tainted by partisan politics or personal agendas. The association has used its name to promote the agendas …

Attention San Francisco Planning Commission: HVSafe supports the proposed project for 618 & 630 Octavia. We’ve had an open dialogue with Eduardo Sagues/March Capital Management and are satisfied with the answers and information provided …

Clearing Confusion about our Traffic Calming Initiative

Here’s our email to Bob Barnwell who continues to dismiss our public safety efforts in Hayes Valley while calling himself the Chair of the Hayes Valley Public Safety Committee when in fact he’s the chair of the HVNA (Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association) committee. Kinda confusing, we know (you can read more about this here). It’s not the first time we’ve been on the receiving end of having to explain ourselves, in fact last year he and the HVNA president were …
