Summer Roundup 2024
With election day a few weeks away we wanted to share a few updates on initiatives that we’ve been busy advocating for which inevitably will drive our post election efforts. We believe it’s critical to share our discoveries and takeaways on issues that continue to shape our neighborhood — these matters impact both our quality of life and conditions to conduct business in Hayes Valley. Head West Event The increased frequency (4x a year) of this event continues to harm …
An Open Letter Re: Public Safety
image credit: 49miles.com Yesterday evening I sat on a table bench at 4505 Burgers & BBQ on Divisadero with my dog while my husband stood in line to place our order. My back was up against the gate (arrow on photo=location). Suddenly a loud voice behind me screamed obscenities and I was punched in the back. The gate behind me rattled. My heart stopped. I looked to the right and saw a half naked man with his pants falling with …
Takeaways from MOCAC Meeting June 17th 2024
Representatives of HVSafe attended last month’s MOCAC Meeting. Below are the listed items that were presented. The item of most interest to us was the presentation regarding the Hayes Street Closure by Andrew Seigner. Worth noting, the conflict of interest and over reach by the HVNA was remarkably evident: the presenter Andrew Seigner is a HVNA board member, the closed street permit holder and MOCAC committee member. Andrew is also pushing a petition for a permanent closure on Hayes under …
Head West Market SFMTA Permit 2024
Permit history 2023 Permit History 2025 permit update UPDATE: July 10, 2024 Despite all the feedback and letters of opposition regarding the process and lack of oversight and representation to defend the needs and positions of our small mom and pop business operators SFMTA/ISCOTT and the office of Small Business did the predictable and approved the 4th date. While we disagree with the choice or words that an agreement was reached to substantiate this decision we will be looking forward …
Freeway Commemoration Project Update
A short summary This week an update on the Commemoration Project was provided at the MOCAC meeting by Jenn Laska. We heard how she has been working 2+ years on this project only to end up empty handed. She cited difficulty in working with Rec and Park and insisted she is not interested in a small scale project as some are suggesting. We heard her walk back many aspects of the process and vision that have previously been presented. She …
Hayes Valley Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Selection at Patricia’s Green
Our initial inquiry regarding community participation process Back in December we were prompted of the following RFP for a new Sculpture Display in Patricia’s Green. The detailed RFP makes reference to one neighborhood group being involved so naturally members and volunteers from Hayes Valley Safe posed the question “how can we be part of the process?” We reached out to SFAC multiple times via email and phone to no avail. Finally at the end of January we made contact with …
New Year Message
As it’s a new year we want to provide a brief update on our current efforts/positions and outline our keystone advocacy focuses for 2024. We remain grateful for the opportunity to serve this community. While we are proud of our past 3 years efforts advocating for quality of life needs and equitable representation for Hayes Valley Proper residents and small business it has been a path riddled with challenges for us as a young organization. While we navigate the complexities …
