SFPD Boundary Analysis

As you know, SFPD is currently taking input on its redistricting proposal. Like other redistricting processes, police redistricting takes place every 10 years– you can learn more about it here. This proposal includes several changes that affect District 5 neighborhoods (summarized below). SFPD will be taking comments/feedback on this proposal until October 15, 2024. You can view the map of changes here. Those changes are described as to District 5 neighborhoods below:

Tenderloin:

  • D5 Neighborhoods affected: Tenderloin, Civic Center, Lower Polk
  • D5 Redistricting proposal: The proposal would keep Tenderloin District Station fully above Market Street (as opposed to going up to Mission Street). It would also extend Tenderloin District all the way to Van Ness (as opposed to zig-zagging up Polk and Larkin) and up to Sutter (instead of Geary).

Northern:

  • D5 Neighborhoods affected: Hayes Valley, Lower Polk
  • D5 Neighborhoods w/in Northern that aren’t affected by changes: Fillmore, Lower Haight, Japantown, Lower Pac Heights, Alamo Square
  • Redistricting proposal: The proposal would keep Northern Station above Market Street (instead of going down to 13th/101 S), and west of Van Ness (as opposed to zig-zagging up Polk and Larkin).

Park:

  • D5 Neighborhoods affected: NOPA
  • D5 Neighborhoods within Park that may have thoughts on expanded boundaries: Upper Haight, Divis, Lower Haight, NOPA
  • Redistricting proposal: The proposal would shift Park Station boundaries down to Fulton Street (instead of Geary), extend into Golden Gate Park to include the Conservatory of Flowers, and across Market Street to include the area between 21st and Sanchez (i.e., the Castro).

Richmond:

  • D5 Neighborhoods affected: NOPA
  • Redistricting proposal: The proposal would shift Richmond Station down to Fulton (instead of Geary), bringing Richmond Station into the rotation of D5 stations.
