This past weekend marked the 32nd consecutive week of documented noncompliance under Permit No. 1091787.

While a carnival was active on Parcel K Saturday afternoon, the adjacent closure of Hayes Street was unnecessary outside of the scheduled event. Later that evening, traffic congestion on the 500 block was particularly pronounced, underscoring how this closure exacerbates surrounding street conditions.

We continue to ask: how is this permit still in effect despite ongoing breaches? The lack of enforcement only reinforces the perception that SFMTA has allowed a single permit holder to monopolize a vital business corridor with no meaningful oversight. Hayes Valley is well aware by now that no action will be taken. Along with many San Franciscans, we no longer trust or see a partner in SFMTA capable of making the case that this policy serves the greater good.
