Behind the Process: What Our Engagement Reveals This section outlines our direct engagement with City agencies and offices over the past two years. It is based on public correspondence, meeting notes, and documented interactions –not speculation. The purpose is to help the public understand how a neighborhood issue became a political project and why that context is critical ahead of this renewal. 1. What SFMTA Has and Hasn’t Done — A Case Study in Failure for Hayes Valley

400 Block of Hayes Street Closure A year since the last renewal, Hayes Valley is still living with a “temporary” closure run by HVNA; SFMTA’s failures of process, enforcement, and accountability are clearer than ever. The Record Since Last RenewalAs the Hayes Street closure future remains in limbo, it’s worth asking a simple question: what has SFMTA actually done in the past year? 49 Reasons the Hayes Street Closure Needs to End

The Hayes Street closure was supposed to be temporary. Instead, it’s become a politicized experiment with no accountability one that hurts small businesses, fuels division, and defies logic. Shared Street Closure Permit Renewal – 300 Block of Hayes

It is increasingly evident that justification for the Shared Street Closure on Hayes Street has run its course. The program, hastily enacted under emergency policy, has not been subject to community review since its initial roll out in August of 2020. This lack of process has allowed the permittee, HVNA (Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association), to control the closure without input from impacted local businesses, still struggling to recover from the economic fallout of the ongoing pandemic. No data, metrics, or …

500 Hayes Street – Shared Streets – Request to Cease Closure/Re Open

Update Wednesday July 14, 2021Throughout the petition process our coalition faced a series of challenges which are outlined below. In January in tandem with the Hayes Valley Small Business Association (HVSBA) we opened an inquiry on the permit approval process with SFMTA; as a result we found a staggering lack of transparency had been applied (for a program that has been under the guise of temporary). After voicing our overall concerns with what had transpired and pointing to several just …
