Week 53 • Hayes Street Temporary Street Closure Permit No. 1316522 Noncompliance

December 14, 2025
Attention SFMTA:
See conditions for this past weekend:

This marks Week 53 of documented noncompliance on the 400 block of Hayes Street. Since the renewal of Permit No. 1316522, conditions on the ground remain unchanged. Equally unchanged is the agency’s failure to acknowledge or respond to the documented record of opposition submitted prior to renewal. Multiple letters raising safety, access, compliance, and documented business loss concerns were submitted to SFMTA ahead of the new permit term. To date, those concerns remain unaddressed.

The continuation of this closure despite sustained violations and unresolved opposition raises a fundamental question:
On what basis is SFMTA continuing to authorize this permit?

If neither documented noncompliance nor documented opposition is sufficient to warrant permit revocation, the public deserves clarity on what standards, if any, govern permit continuation under the Shared Spaces program. Absent correction or explanation, we again urge SFMTA to revoke Permit No. 1316522 and restore Hayes Street to its intended, lawful use.

This correspondence has been edited for clarity and conciseness. Routine greetings, scheduling notes, and contact details have been omitted; the substance of the communication remains unchanged.
