Week 38 • Hayes Street Temporary Street Closure Permit No. 1091787 Noncompliance

September 3, 2025

Attention SFMTA:

{38th consecutive week} See street conditions for this past weekend:
Friday August 29, 2025
Saturday August 30, 2025

  • On Saturday, outside vendors were again allowed to drive vehicles onto the closed block and park while setting up. {see photo} This is in direct violation of the permit. The hypocrisy is striking: merchants on Hayes Street are told that cars and access for their clients “don’t matter,” yet vendors with no leases, overhead, or long-term investment are given free rein to drive in and operate without accountability.
  • The recurring SIGNATURE men’s clothing tent was present again on Saturday. We have raised this matter previously and have yet to receive a response. Its continued operation without a visible permit underscores the lack of oversight and enforcement.
  • Parked private vehicles continued to occupy the closure, a blatant violation of permit terms and resulting in lost metered parking revenue for the City.

After 38 weeks, the pattern continues: ongoing violations, no enforcement, and continued harm to a vital business corridor. The permit should be revoked, and Hayes Street restored to its intended use.
